Harley Quinn Movie Reportedly in Development

Even though Suicide Squad won’t be out for a few more months, DC has enough faith in Margot Robbie’s portrayal of Harley Quinn that they are already considering making a spin-off movie about her.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Robbie will be both staring and producing the untitled Harley Quinn movie, but it will not just be a solo film for the character. THR mentioned that the project will also help introduce several other female heroes and villains into the DC movie universe. So far only Batgirl and the Birds of Prey have been thrown around as possibilities but nothing official has been confirmed yet.

Robbie was also reportedly the one who pitched the movie to Warner Bros after she landed her role in Suicide Squad. It’s said that she researched Harley Quinn’s history, “fell for DC’s female characters,” and brought on a female writer to help develop the ensemble film. She presented it to Warner Bros, who “snapped it up.” The writer attached to the project has not been named yet, although it sounds like she is already working on a draft for the movie.

It’s currently unknown if Jared Leto’s Joker will be appearing in the movie in some degree or if Cara Delevingne’s Enchantress or Karen Fukuhara’s Katana will be among the female DC characters that are planned to be featured in the movie.

So far the film does not have a set release date, and has not been officially added to Warner Bros slate of DC films yet.

Suicide Squad directed by David Ayeris scheduled for release on August 5, 2016 and will star Will Smith as Deadshot, Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flagg, Robbie as Harley Quinn, Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang, Delevingne as Enchantress, Fukuhara as Katana, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje as Killer Croc, Jay Hernandez as El DIablo, Adam Beach as Slipknot, Viola Davis as Amanda Waller, and Leto as The Joker.
