Gambit Movie Delayed Again

20th Century Fox’s standalone Gambit movie has had a very rocky production. After almost losing Channing Tatum as the lead star and the departure of the original director, Gambit just can’t seem to catch a break. Things are especially not looking good for the movie again since it appears that the film has now been removed from Fox’s release schedule and has also been delayed yet again.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Gambit which was supposed to begin production in the first quarter of 2016, won’t be starting production until the end of 2016. THR also states that the film is undergoing rewrites from Magic Mike and Magic Mike XXL screenwriter Reid Carolin.

In the meantime, director Doug Liman is reportedly in negotiations to direct The Wall, the first ever original movie for Amazon Studios. The Wall, which was written by Dwain Worrell, is the studios first spec script purchase and is a psychological thriller starring a sniper. Liman expects to start filming The Wall this spring/summer before switching back over to Gambit.

Gambit was originally set to be directed by Rupert Wyatt (Rise of the Planet of the Apeswho had left the project last September due to scheduling conflicts. However, a story from Deadline suggests that his departure may have actually been due to ongoing disagreements over both the script and the budget for the movie.

No new projected release date for Gambit or official statement on the delay has been released by 20th Century Fox at this time.
