Big Hero 6 Animated Series Coming to Disney XD

Big Hero 6, the award-winning Walt Disney Animation Studios film based on the characters and concepts from Marvel Comics, may not be getting a traditional film sequel anytime soon, but it will at least be followed up with an animated series on Disney XD instead.

Big Hero 6 The Series will pick up where the movie left off and will follow Hiro, Baymax, Wasabi, Honey Lemon, Fred, and Go Go as they defend their city from scientifically enhanced villains while Hiro will face the challenges of being San Fransokyo Institute of Technology’s newest prodigy and all the social hurdles that entails.

Mark McCorkle and Bob Schooley, who collaborated on Kim Possible, will executive produce the series and Nick Filippi will serve as a supervising director.

“Our colleagues at Walt Disney Animation Studios have created a brilliant new world, inspired by Marvel, with vivid, unique characters. We are thrilled to have the opportunity to further develop these characters into a world class animated series…” Disney Channels Worldwide President Gary Marsh said in a statement.

It’s currently unknown if any of the voice actors from the film will be reprising their roles for the show or if the show will also share the same art style as the movie.

Big Hero 6 The Series is now in production and is set to debut in 2017.
