Just a few weeks ago, we got to see Matt Ryan reprise his role as Constantine once more on Arrow. While his own show may be gone, his appearance managed to reignite the viewers’ interest in seeing more of Ryan’s trench coat wearing, chain-smoking, petty dabbler of the dark arts once again and the creators of DC’s Legends of Tomorrow seem to have noticed this as well.
According to Bleeding Cool, they were informed that the show runners plan to have Ryan’s John Constantine “appear as a series regular in 2017’s season two” as part of The CW’s plan to supposedly have DC’s Legends of Tomorrow “radically switch casts and missions each season.”
This report implies that each season will have a different roster of characters on the team who will be facing a different kind of threat each time. In season one, the team consisting of heroes and villains who first appeared on the Flash and Arrow, will have them traveling through time to stop Vandal Savage from taking over the world in the future. For season two it sounds as though most or all of them will be switched out with new members and may or may not still be doing any more time traveling. With Constantine possibly joining the team, it is unknown if this could mean that the main threat of that season will be magic based or demonic in some way. If so then maybe the rest of the team for that season will also consist of magic related characters.
It’s also worth noting that Ryan isn’t the only actor who’s possibly being looked at for Legends of Tomorrow season two. The report also mentioned that Steven R. McQueen (The Vampire Diaries) is being considered to play an unnamed hero. Last year, McQueen was seemingly campaigning to play Dick Grayson, a.k.a. Nightwing, though nothing ever came of that. It is unknown which character McQueen is being looked at to play but with Blüdhaven technically existing in The CW DC universe, maybe Nightwing could still become a possibility.
So far the show runners have yet to comment on this rumor as of yet so it may be some time until we find out what the creators have in store for Legends of Tomorrow season two. In the meantime, fans can look forward to season one premiering on Thursday, January 21 at 8 p.m. EST on The CW.
