A Moon Knight Show For Netflix Reportedly in Development

For years we have heard countless rumors and stories about a television show for Moon Knight being in development but after the success of Marvel’s Daredevil along with this newest rumor to hit the fan, maybe the possibility of seeing Moon Knight appear on television might actually become a reality soon.

During a guest spot on Heroic Hollywood’s video cast Collider HeroesUmberto “El Mayimbe” Gonzales mentioned that Marvel was planning to develop a Moon Knight TV series for Netflix.

Around the 9:45 minute mark in the video below, Gonzales and the hosts were discussing the three recently announced mystery Marvel movies set for 2020. During the discussion, Moon Knight was brought up and Gonzales says that he heard that Marvel was preparing the character for the “back door pilot” treatment on Netflix, similar to the Punisher in the second season of Daredevil.

“It’s interesting you bring up Moon Knight because that’s not actually being developed for film. The heroic hot rumor is that Moon Knight is actually being developed for Netflix since he is their version of Bruce Wayne. Like the way they’re backdoor piloting Punisher, making an appearance in Daredevil Season 2, if it works out, boom. Same thing with Moon Knight. Again, he’s their version of Bruce Wayne. It’s one of the staples that they’re developing for their Netflix strategy. I’d rather see the Netflix version of Moon Knight than the cinematic one” said Gonzales.

Judging by his choice of words, this could mean that Moon Knight could first appear on one of the other Netflix shows like Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, or Iron Fist and then appear on his own show if he is popular enough just like how Barry Allen first appeared on Arrow and then got his own spin-off show The Flash a year later.

There had been no word or rumors as of yet that suggested that a Punisher spin-off could happen after his first appearance in season two of Daredevil, but with this the chances of Marvel creating other shows for Netflix that are not part of their planned Defenders series does seem likely and may further prove that Moon Knight will at least be making an appearance on one of these shows even if he doesn’t get a series of his own.

Moon Knight was also briefly referenced (not in name though) in small easter egg in Captain America: The Winter Soldier so his inclusion into the ever-expanding Marvel Cinematic Universe does seem incredibly likely. Even though Moon Knight has been constantly compared to Batman, he is a considerably more dark, insane, and brutal character when compared to the Dark Knight and unlike Batman, he has no problem killing people and cutting off their faces. Someone like this does pose a better fit for Netflix than in the more lighthearted pg-13 rated Marvel movies or on the shows on ABC.

At the moment, this is all merely an unconfirmed rumor.

Daredevil Season One is currently available on Netflix with Season Two still filming. Jessica Jones will be available starting November 20, 2015 with Luke Cage following in 2016. Iron Fist and The Defenders will arrive sometime after the others.
